This is the personal home of Hans and Tina Doellgast, the owners of Jade Mountain Builders. This ever evolving labor of love was born of the desire to live in a home that was a mixture of a Japanese Temple and a Barn. During construction, Hans caught the interest of the “This New House” show on the DIY network. They opened their 2011 season with the episode “Jappalachia”, in which they drew parallels between Jade Mountains unique style, and Japanese American woodworker/Architect George Nakashima. All of the natural edge trim on the main level was harvested and milled from trees on other Jade Mountain job sites, similar to Nakashima’s own practices as highlighted in his book “The Soul of a Tree”.
